The dark white paper is a collaboration between Indy Johar from Dark Matter Labs, David Johnston from design agency Accept & Proceed, and Clare Farrell co-founder of Hard Art.
Hard Imagination emerges from a shared belief that the future must move towards a “Together World”: a world that is more united, interconnected, and whole.
This vision aligns with the convergence of modern science and ancient indigenous wisdom, both of which affirm humanity's need to evolve in harmony with one another and the planet.
This collaboration was sparked by a conversation between Indy Johar and David Johnston at a gathering of HardArt in 2024, where the spirit of a new movement began to take shape—a movement blending creativity, technology, and visionary thinking.
The report was launched by David Johnston and Clare Farrell at Hard Art on Weds 22nd January 2025 in an abandoned members club in Mayfair, London.
All donations will go to the Hard Art kitty to produce work that crosses boundaries and shifts paradigms
“We’ve grown weary of a future defined by venture capital—by its two-in-twenty structures, five-year fund cycles, and narrow pathways for converting value into price. The landscape we’ve outlined seeks to not only trace the linear extrapolations of the present but also illuminate the radical possibilities that lie at the far edges of our imagination—places where value remains indeterminate, where pathways to price are not yet mapped, and where horizons stretch far beyond the five-year cycles of venture capital."
“More than a project, Hard Imagination is a manifesto and a call to action. It invites individuals, communities, and industries to reimagine what is possible and step boldly into the future. This is not a solitary endeavour. It is a collective movement, driven by alliances and collaborations that strengthen our shared human experience."
“There is a vision of our future where Venture Capital is invested to clean up global air and water pollution crises and help countries survive through adaptation to the oncoming climate collapse. The job of Hard Imagination is to plant the seed of how to invoke a harder, more creative imaginative leap for Venture Capital so they can see a possibility for a less catastrophic future, taking us off the current trajectory where according to the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ most recent report, we’re on course for at least 2 billion dead by 2050. In simple terms, imagine cooperation and peace as a constant effort, instead of escalation and self termination, just imagine that.”
